The Position:
Our client in the educational sector is seeking a permanent Network Enterprise Specialist to join their team. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of enterprise network infrastructure across data center and campus environments. You are focused on delivering results and reliability for staff and students, bring deep expertise in routing, switching, and network design, and are committed to continuous learning and mentorship. What You'll Do:
- Manage System Upgrades and Configuration Changes (30%)
- Perform system upgrades and configuration changes to core devices in the data center.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of routing, switching, and network design to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement changes and minimize downtime.
- Document all changes and procedures to maintain accurate records.
- Ensure upgrades and configurations align with organizational goals and standards.
- Develop and Implement Disaster Recovery Plans (20%)
- Create and maintain disaster recovery plans for all mission-critical systems and data.
- Document instructions and procedures to ensure rapid and reliable recovery in case of system failure.
- Conduct regular tests and updates to ensure the effectiveness of recovery plans.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure plans comply with industry standards and best practices.
- Resolve Complex Network Issues (20%)
- Conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot and resolve high-priority network issues.
- Interface with staff, clients, and vendors to diagnose and correct network-related problems.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve issues.
- Document resolutions and share knowledge with team members.
- Ensure network stability and reliability to support business operations.
- Provide Technical Leadership and Support (15%)
- Offer technical leadership on project teams to design and implement network solutions.
- Provide network support for all approved business and educational applications.
- Assist in capacity planning and procurement of networking devices.
- Mentor and guide entry-level technical staff in areas of expertise.
- Maintain technical knowledge through professional development activities.
- Manage Network Access and Security (15%)
- Oversee network access and security to protect private and confidential data.
- Implement security measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.
- Monitor network activity to identify potential security threats.
- Collaborate with security teams to develop and enforce security policies.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Mandatories:
- 5–7 years experience in enterprise networking with strong routing/switching (e.g., BGP, OSPF, STP, VLANs, QoS) and data center networking.
- Hands-on experience administering core network platforms and tools (e.g., Cisco/Aruba/Juniper switching, firewalls, VPN, NAC, wireless).
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing network upgrades and configuration changes in production environments with minimal downtime.
- Proven capability to design, document, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting skills using advanced diagnostic and monitoring tools (e.g., packet capture, flow analysis, SNMP/NetFlow/telemetry, SIEM).
- Solid understanding of network security principles and controls (segmentation, access control, patching, vulnerability management) and compliance best practices.
- Ability to collaborate across IT, vendors, and stakeholders; excellent written documentation and communication skills.
- Self-driven with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment; able to mentor junior team members.
- Relevant post-secondary education in IT/Networking or equivalent experience.
- Certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent are considered strong assets.
- Experience in the education sector and support of campus environments is a strong asset.
